As his 1999 Jeep Cherokee flew down Interstate-75 at 73 miles per hour, he lost control and crossed several lanes of traffic. His vehicle bounced off the guardrail and crashed into Glen Delk’s 1996 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The truck flipped over the guardrail, catching fire immediately. Delk was partially ejected and killed almost instantly.

A few blocks away, Cincinnati Police Capt. Jeff Butler was pulling his cruiser into Camp Washington Chili and heard someone yelling that there had been a serious accident on I-75. Butler turned his car around and headed for the scene.

He didn’t expect to see his family friend, Taylor, trying to pull Delk out of the burning truck. Butler had known this man since Taylor’s childhood – both of their fathers were police officers.

But on that night, Taylor was slurring his speech, couldn’t keep his balance and had watery, bloodshot eyes. He failed sobriety tests, registering a blood-alcohol content of .197percent, nearly 2 ½ times Ohio’s legal limit for drivers. Taylor told police he had been drinking beer just before he began driving that night.

In January, Taylor pled guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide, and on Feb. 17, Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Jerome Metz, Jr., sentenced him to four years in prison. Metz also suspended Taylor’s driver’s license for three years to life.

“From the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry for your loss,” Taylor said to Delk’s family and friends, according to Cincinnati.com.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving reported that in 2010, 341 people were killed in drunk driving accidents in Ohio, a 4.9 percent increase from the year before.

Police say that James Bickett, 24, of Goshen, was killed when the Mitsubishi Eclipse he was driving was struck by a Dodge Ram, driven by a Batavia man.

Officials stated that Bickett failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

Bickett was transported to Clermont Mercy Hospital and was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Dodge Ram was not injured in the crash.

The deadly Batavia accident is still under investigation by the Clermont County Sheriff’s Department.

A memorial fund has been set up for James Michael Techur Bickett at U.S. Bank. Funeral Services were held at New Hope Church on Mt. Carmel-Tobasco Rd.

The horrific collision occurred little before 6:00 a.m. on eastbound SR 32 near Portsmouth Road.

A 54-year-old man from Amelia was traveling down the highway when an 18-wheeler failed to stop at a stop sign and turned in front of him, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

The semi truck was being driven by a man from Buford, Georgia when it slammed into the Amelia man’s pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials conducted a thorough investigation of the crash, shutting down the road completely for several hours.

After crews cleaned up, SR 32 was reopened.

Ohio State Police continue to investigate the accident. No official word has come out on whether or not charges will be filed against the truck driver.

The following Sunday, a fatal accident occurred at another Ohio intersection, this time at Ohio 73 and Jacksonburg Road.

The accident happened shortly before 3:00p.m. Sunday.

Police say one life and a dog died as a result of the accident.

According to police, a white 2002 Volvo driven by Peter Morris, 85, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and then entered the lane of a semi-truck. The semi then struck Morris’ vehicle on the driver’s side of the car. The semi then overturned and lost the cargo it was carrying.

Morris was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit and the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

The story finds a grown-up Jack faced with the gargantuan task of taming the most despicable giant of them all. He teams up with his sons and his magic bean stalk, which can talk, to get the job done.

In addition to the title story, Sunday’s performance will offer audiences three more tall tales: The Stone Giant, an Iroquois legend; The Heartless Giant, a Czech Republic folktale; and The Brave Little Tailor, a German fairy tale penned by the Brothers Grimm.

The performance is free for children 12 and under. A suggested donation of $5 for adults is payable at the door.

The three motorcyclists were traveling together, eastbound on US-52, when one of them lost control and veered into oncoming traffic striking a cement truck. The cement truck overturned and then hit the other two riders, according to a Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Wayne Price.

Officials stated that two of the motorcycles caught fire and one man, 53-year-old Larry Gillinger of Fayetteville, was badly burned but survived the accident. The two other motorcyclists Daniel Frazee, 56, of Bethel, and James Henley, 39, of New Richmond, died at the scene.

Gillinger was transported to the University Hospital in critical condition with severe burns.

The cement truck driver, Carl Watson, 58, of Seaman, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Clermont Mercy Hospital.

Police say that both Gillinger and Hensley were wearing helmets at the time of the crash but Frazee was not.

The accident is still under investigation.

Two of McLester’s rear seat passengers, Olivia French, 19, and Matt Shuttleworth, 18, were ejected from the vehicle. They later died at the scene of the accident. The car was struck by two other vehicles that failed to spot the accident. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, another car and a tractor-trailer hit McLester’s vehicle. Emergency crews had to use heavy equipment to extract McLester and another passenger, Derrek Jones, from the vehicle. The cause of the auto accident is still under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and no charges have been filed.

According to the District 3 Fire Chief, the accident occurred when Phillip True, 27, crossed the yellow line and struck the bus. True’s car was wedged underneath the school bus and he suffered life-threatening injuries. He was trapped in the wreckage and had to be removed by the jaws of life.

The school bus was transporting three special needs children to Roll Hill Academy, on Baltimore Ave. and North Fairmount, when they were hit. A spokeswoman for Cincinnati public schools said that all three children were taken to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center as a precaution.

The Cincinnati accident left the bus driver and another adult passenger with chest and head injuries. They were transported to the University Hospital. Both injured victims were treated and released.

Phillip True was seriously injured in the collision. After the emergency crew cut the roof off of his car and safely removed him, he was transported to University Hospital. His injuries were life-threatening and he is listed in critical condition, according to Cincinnati Police Lt. Maurice Robinson.
