Cincinnati’s Flying Pig Marathon Invites Kids to Be Smart, Eat Well, & Move More
In May, the 14th annual Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon invites runners, walkers, and relay racers from in and around Cincinnati to participate in a weekend of fun for the whole family.
The Flying Pig Marathon boasted well over 5,000 finishers last year, with many of them running for charity.
Over 100 charities benefit from using the Flying Pig as a fundraiser each year!
This year, in addition to the full marathon, half marathon, four-person relay, 10K, and 5K events it typically offers, the Flying Pig is encouraging Cincinnati kids to get involved.
In fact, marathon organizers want children to get involved not just in the full weekend of Flying Pig events, but in a “lifetime marathon” of healthy choices.
To promote healthful decision-making among Cincinnati kids, the Flying Pig is sponsoring a program called “Be Smart, Eat Well, & Move More.”
The Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon is a great opportunity for families, schools and groups.
The program is designed for children ages 5-12 years old, along with their fitness buddies (parents, teachers, leaders, mentors).
It is not a race, but a longer-term initiative in which kids can walk, jog, or wheelchair the distance of a marathon in small increments.
Using the “Hog Log” provided by the Kids’ Marathon website, Cincinnati children can keep track of their miles, as well as smart nutrition and reading choices made in the weeks from now until May 5.
On Saturday, May 5, Kids’ Marathon participants can opt to finish their marathon at the Kids’ Final Mile event, during which they will cover their last mile on the actual Flying Pig Marathon course, crossing the real “Finish Swine.”
Participants in the Kids’ Final Mile receive a finisher’s shirt, a marathon medal, and all the goodies of the finish celebration.
